On Sunday 18 March, the Sydney Sailors and the Western Walers will take to the oval for the first time.
These brave Sydney players, as well as a handful of diehard Melbourne Reclink Community Cup players who have volunteered to travel to Sydney to be part of the game, will duke it out to see who will hold the trophy for the first ever Sydney event.
The overarching principle of team selection is to create a fun spectacle in the spirit of the Cup.

The Western Walers logo carries the image of a Waler horse. Bred in New South Wales and famous for endurance and speed, Walers were used widely by the light horsemen during WW1. This team will be dominated by musos and will also continue the tradition of the Aboriginal flag colours worn by Melbourne brother team, the Espy Rockdogs

The Sydney Sailors will wear the original sash design of the South Melbourne jumper from their first flag in 1918. This jumper commemorates the historical roots of the Sydney Swans. The Sydney Sailors is the brother team of Melbourne’s Triple R 102.7FM and PBS 106.7FM Megahertz, and is a team dominated by radio and media.
How do I join a team?
Team players are currently being recruited. The first step of team recruitment is expressing interest to Kim Carter at Rockstar Management kim@rockstar.net.au for a group of people or an individual. There is no restriction on who can play, just be prepared to attend two 2-hour training sessions and then on the day. It is at this time we will finalise what team you will run with!
Everything you will need to know about training times (there will be only a couple), uniforms and so on will be communicated through Facebook Groups exclusively for each team.
Both women and men are welcome on the teams. Every year Melbourne’s event has a healthy turnover of players of all ages and both genders.
The final score isn’t a consideration when the team lists are drawn up. Like we said, this is a special game – you’ve gotta see it to believe it.
